chasing the Light in Pormagee, Ireland
Still riding the high from relaunching Kas Photographs, and now feels like the perfect time to share a little moment that reminded me why I do this.
Funny story:
My partner and I were chasing sunrise views at the Kerry Cliffs in Portmagee, Ireland. I had very romantically envisioned the cliffs glowing in golden light — so we rolled up at 6:00am… only to find the gates closed with a sign warning of guard dogs...
Cue immediate guilt on my part — I’d dragged us out of bed at the crack of dawn and completely forgot to check the hours. Feeling bummed, we headed back toward town to find breakfast and regroup.
And then — this happened.
This insane, breathtaking, totally unplanned sunrise stopped us in our tracks.
The sun breaking through the clouds, casting golden beams over the mountains and the little fishing town below... I cried. A LOT. Like, multiple times. My brain just couldn't process the amazement and gratefulness I felt for getting to experience something so magical
I did my best to capture it as I saw it — pulling down my exposure to bring out every delicious colour. It was the kind of quiet, cinematic beauty you couldn’t have planned for — and that was the whole lesson.
Sometimes the detour is the destination.
Photography, for me, has always been about chasing light and feeling everything as deeply as possible. This sunrise? A full-on reminder to slow down, look closer, and let the moment wreck you a little (in the best way).
